I always remember being an artist. From drawing with crayons all over the walls as a toddler, to sculpting with my Mother's bread and cookie dough. My driving talent led me to explore many types of paintings and sculpting with clay, wax, and all types of media. I'd bring my sketchbook to the Seattle Woodland Park Zoo, and draw the birds, bears, and elephants for the day. I attended the U of W in Seattle briefly, then transferred to Washington State University in Pullman, WA; true horse country.
I met my husband while attending W.S.U. He's the horse-loving, neighborhood boy I 'd known as a shy girl of about 12. After we married in the Idaho Falls Temple, we visited horse shows and Arabian horse breeders together all over Washington, Canada, and Oregon. I became well known for the equine portraits I would complete while at the shows. My equine art began to be featured in horse show catalogs and premium lists, and I illustrated, 'Guardians of the Breed', for the Arabian Horse Association of America. A few years later, I created the bronze portrait sculpture of 'Baskfibia', the well-known sire of champion Arabians.
Three days before the 'Baskfibia' sculpture won the Best in Show Award at the Daffodil Annual Art Auction, our second child was born. Two more daughters made a total of four beautiful girls, and they kept me busy drawing on blank newsprint to them to color. Finding the time and a place to paint, safely away from my own budding artist's inquisitive hands and scissors, was a challenge. Several quality watercolor brushes developed 'interesting' haircuts because of my girls.
When our daughters were young, I participated with the local Fred Oldfield Western Art Shows, we just loved attending those shows. They were the best fellow artists, and I learned much from them. But, it was hard to be away from home for long weekends at a time. How could I present my art, and be a stay at home Mom, too?
Then the Internet arrived in our small mountain town of Darrington, WA,and it provided the answer. I began Stacey's Free Online Horse Coloring Book pages for my own domain, AWhiteHorse.com. Now, I could share my art with children everywhere. My online coloring books continue to grow and expand on refrigerator doors all over the country.
Today, my grown daughters and husband, Phil, are my biggest supporters. We're still visiting horse shows, and meeting breeders, and attending art shows together. We create equine art and crafts to support several local horse rescues, and we're always making something new to share with our readers.
